I am a seventh generation Texian. My Great, Great Grandfather was William Ashley McKinney. William Ashley served in the 6th Texas Cavalry under future Governor, Lawrence Sullivan Ross. William was the Grandson of Collin McKinney. Collin McKinney was my Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather. He was the oldest man to sign Texas Declaration of Independence from Mexico and a member of the Being a Veteran is an honor being a Papa is priceless shirt man delegation that drafted the document. William Ashley was wounded at the battle of Hatchie Bridge in October of 1862 and had his leg amputated. After coming home, he was still able to father a large family, (pause) or else I wouldn’t be here to address you today.
